🤔 Polite silence and mild curiosity are usually the type of initial reactions I get when I speak about the importance of hashtag#HR in hashtag#Sustainability.
When we think sustainability, we think environment mainly, reducing our footprint, recycling, global warming, changing our consumption modes... all things critical, but we rarely think of the impact at the corporate level (unless you are in a sector already fully engaged in the topic).
Actually, most people forget that hashtag#ESG stands for hashtag#Environmental & hashtag#Social hashtag#Governance. The Social part is crucial. 1/3 of the acronym, right?
Let me give you a few examples:
🎓 - How do you ensure your staff employability remains high? In thinking how your products / markets will evolve and how you can prepare your workforce to the switch. Much smarter than making employees redundant and hiring new ones, which is always the most costly option (in terms of dollars and reputation). This is strategic, and visionary in a world where we see and anticipate a rarefaction of qualified profiles.
💞 - How do you adapt your benefits and ways of working to support a wider range of employees at different stages of life and with different types of care duties (from young families to supporting ageing parents). This is reducing stress, risk of absence (or resignation), ensuring a more motivated and engaged workforce.
♻️ - How do you ensure the transmission of critical know-how so you don't lose precious time training people in skills that are so crucial and yet so hard to measure. In multiple surveys, it has been shown that the HOW is equally important to the WHAT. Because this translates your culture, how you do business and how your people behave. Know-how and soft skills develop happy and performing teams, that at the end of the day make satisfied clients.
💡 Every time I share these types of examples my stakeholders who listened with polite silence or curiosity in the beginning, nod and connect the dots.... because yes it makes total sense!
hashtag#HR is about people, so it's about business. Because when people thrive, business do so as well.
